Dunlop Pneumatic Fendering
DUNLOP is a name recognised worldwide for producing commercial and sporting products leading the way in design, manufacturing, quality materials, durability and long service life.
The concept for the Low Pressure Pneumatic Fender evolved from the need to minimise berthing and mooring pressures on ships' hulls, for a multidude of reasons, and to absorb the large impact energy. There were also requirements for a fender which could resolve the logistic problems of deflating and condensing into a lightweight, minimal volume package for stowage on board, or for swift deployment by air or land transport.

In meeting all, or any, of these criteria, Dunlop is the preferred option for the berthing and mooring of naval vessels, either ship-to-shore or ship-to-ship. Originally designed to reduce berthing forces on thin, vulnerable hulls and sensitive electronic systems, the fender was developed and approved to UK MOD (N) specifications.
Although tough enough to withstand the most hostile environments, the fender is relatively lightweight. It can be easily deployed or quickly deflated and rolled to minimum stowage size, and can be stored on land or below deck for use at the next port of call.
Advantages and Reasons for using Dunlop Low Pressure Fenders:
>>Choice
of Size
A
standard range of sizes are available, from 610mm dia. at 20kg unit weight,
up to a massive 4.5m dia. x 30m long at 2,700 kgs weight. However, individual
sizes and lengths most suited to a specific application are easily and inexpensively
manufactured and available, thanks to our flexible proccessing capability.
Please advise us of your requirements.
For small
vessels and high speed surface craft, though not limited to these, two small
fender sizes to MOD specification are in regular use:
610mm dia. x 1067mm long (20kg)
915mm dia. x 2135mm long (40kg)
>>Performance
and Compression
Unlike fender systems wich rely on the deformation of rubber, and are subject
to variation due to age, speed of contact, temperature etc, pneumatic fenders
are very simple, relying only on the compression of air which is God-given,
consistent and totally reliable. Variation due to temperature and initial
inflation pressure is very slight.
Low Pressure pneumatic fenders provide high energy impact performance at very low ship hull pressures. A brochure with full data, standard sizes and related performance characteristics is available on request.
